Biography
Being nostalgic and sentimental by nature, Julia Mon has always sought to capture moments that will never happen again. This longing deeply influences her art, with impression, atmosphere, and a retro feel serving as the foundational pillars of her work.
Having received a classical musical education, Julia discovered her passion for creation in childhood. Though music has been a significant part of her life, the desire to capture life’s beautiful, sad, and unique moments — along with the wish to leave something behind — led her to pick up a pencil and experiment with drawing. It all began one day when she took a music literature book with Bach on the cover, sat by the window in her room, and sketched the great musician. Seeing the result for the first time sparked inspiration and set her on an artistic path.
Since then, portraiture has become one of her favorite themes in art, marked by her signature style: big, soulful eyes that reflect the endless and complex inner world we all carry deep within.
Born and raised in Ukraine, Julia spent her childhood summers by the seaside in Crimea. The nostalgia for those early years — the warm evenings in coastal towns, the calming sounds of the sea, and the glow of lights in summer cafés — runs through all her work like invisible threads, adding a retro charm and a warm, sentimental mood. Later, her impressions of Odesa, with its distinctive flavor, rich history and culture, fascinating facades, cozy courtyards, and the beautiful, endless sea, only deepened her art with a sense of retrospection and dreaminess.
The artist works primarily in oil painting and digital techniques, blending classical and modern approaches to express her unique artistic voice. Through her work, she invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with the beauty of fleeting moments.
